It will roll down the road like that, but you're not providing the driver with the tools that result in optimum performance. I'll advance that buying expensive low-generation tapes without setup tones is a bit like putting snow tires on a Ferrari. No doubt you did consider that, and rejected the idea. I would suggest you consider putting those setup tones on every reel, preceded by a voice announcement warning that high level tones will follow (like test tapes and test CDs have done since their inception), along with visual printed warning on the reel and box. I've mentioned a way to do that, without setup tones, I'm curious to find out how you do it. The reason I'm asking the question, "How do you check for azimuth for every reel?" is that you stated you don't put setup tones on every reel the Tape Project produces, but you do check for azimuth with every reel.
